Description
Role
Supporting autistic adults in acquiring knowledge and skills to enhance their well-being, independence, and social inclusion. You will work 1:1 or in small groups, both on-site at our adult centre and within the local community, following individualised curriculums to support lifelong learning.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide care, support, and teaching in line with individual learning plans.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons to develop knowledge and life skills.
- Implement behaviour strategies to support learning and quality of life.
- Assist with personal care, including hygiene, dressing, and toileting.
- Support learners in social, leisure, and educational activities within the community.
- Help learners access employment opportunities.
- Facilitate decision-making and promote independence.
- Collect and analyse learner progress data, adapting support as needed.
- Administer medication once trained and respond to medical emergencies.
- Participate in relevant training and mandatory courses.
- Undertake other reasonable tasks related to the role.
Skills and experience
- Experience (professional, personal, or voluntary) working with individuals with disabilities.
- Comfortable supporting adults with challenging behaviour and personal care needs.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Interest in special educational needs, particularly autism.
- Passion for helping others develop skills and independence.
- Positive, patient, and caring attitude.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Confidence in handling confidential information.
- Willingness to expand knowledge of autism and adult learning support.
- GCSE Grade C/4 in Maths & English (desirable).
