Duties and responsibilities
Purpose of the role: The Youth Engagement Intern will support the planning and delivery of engaging, structured activities across VIBE youth services, helping to create a safe and inclusive environment where young people feel supported, valued, and empowered. This role focuses on building positive relationships with vulnerable young people, encouraging personal growth, and contributing to their mental health and wellbeing. 

 
Main Duties & Responsibilities: 
1. Activity Planning and Delivery: 
a. Assist youth workers in developing and delivering creative and engaging activities, such as workshops, games, and group discussions. 
b. Support sessions that focus on developing emotional resilience, social skills, and confidence among young people. 
2. Building Positive Relationships with Young People 
a. Actively engage with young people during sessions, offering support, encouragement, and a listening ear. 
b. Help to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere where all young people feel valued.3. Resource Development:a. Contribute to the creation of resources, activities, and tools that promote mental health and wellbeing.b. Research and implement ideas for new activities that align with the interests and needs of young people.4. Safeguarding and Wellbeing:a. Support the team in ensuring all safeguarding protocols are followed during sessions.b. Be attentive to the wellbeing of young people, reporting any concerns to the appropriate team members.5. Team Collaboration:a. Work closely with youth workers, volunteers, and other team members to ensure sessions run smoothly.b. Attend team meetings to provide feedback and contribute ideas for program improvement.

Skills and experience
Essential Skills: 

 
1. Ability to build rapport and engage effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds.  
2. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and confidently in a youth setting. 
3. Demonstrated ability to listen actively, provide emotional support, and approach situations with empathy and patience. 
4. A genuine passion for working with young people and helping them navigate personal challenges. 
5. Ability to work collaboratively with youth workers, volunteers, and other team members to deliver high-quality youth services.6. Willingness to learn from others and contribute to team discussions and activities.7. Enthusiastic and motivated to contribute to the positive development of young people.Desirable Skills:1. Previous experience volunteering or working with young people, either in a formal or informal setting (e.g., schools, youth clubs, community groups).2. A basic knowledge of youth development theories or frameworks related to mental health and wellbeing
