Role
In this role you will be supporting autistic pupils in small classes or 1:1, using behaviour-based instruction and positive reinforcement to accelerate learning. You will follow specialised plans tailored to each pupil’s needs, helping them develop essential skills and achieve their full potential. This role involves engaging teaching sessions, behaviour support, and active participation in school activities.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teach and support autistic pupils with personalised learning plans.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver structured lessons to enhance skill, social, and emotional development.
- Implement behaviour strategies to support positive learning experiences.
- Assist pupils with hygiene, personal care, and independent living skills.
- Participate in breaktime duties, encouraging positive play and interaction.
- Support pupils in extracurricular and off-site activities.
- Assist in the creation and organisation of teaching materials.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to the wider school community.
- Engage in professional training and development opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
Skills and experience
- Experience working with children and disabilities (professional, personal, or voluntary).
- GCSE Grade C/4 in English & Maths (or equivalent).
- Ability to support children with challenging behaviour in a calm and patient manner.
- Comfortable assisting with personal and intimate care when required.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to professional growth and safeguarding best practices.
- Physically able to engage in active tasks, including bending and moving at lower heights.
- Basic IT proficiency (Microsoft Office).
- A positive, proactive approach to work.
- An Early Years qualification is desirable.
