Description

Role
The University of Leicester is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to join our Health Behaviour and Implementation Science Research Group within the School of Healthcare, College of Life Sciences. This role is part of the NIHR-funded IMAB-Qi Programme Grant for Applied Research, a 64-month initiative aimed at addressing medication non-adherence. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation and evaluation of the IMAB-Qi intervention, which integrates behavioural science to improve patient adherence to prescribed medication regimes.

Duties and responsibilities
The Research Assistant will support the process of testing the IMAB-Qi intervention with general practice staff across four practices. This will involve working closely with NHS organisations to prepare for implementation, recruiting general practice staff and patients, developing patient scenarios, coordinating testing sessions, and conducting focus groups to gather and analyse feedback. The postholder will also contribute to developing the IMAB-Qi implementation package by recruiting key stakeholders, organising co-design workshops, and collaborating with partners such as healthcare record software providers and videographers.

In addition to research duties, the successful candidate will assist in managing the IMAB-Qi research programme by reporting activities to chief investigators, preparing reports for funders and stakeholders, and facilitating meaningful contributions from Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) members. They will be expected to attend regular research meetings within the School of Healthcare to share findings and support the broader research group. The role will also involve contributing to the dissemination of research by assisting in the development of website and social media content, co-authoring journal articles, and presenting findings at workshops and conferences. Furthermore, as part of the University of Leicester community, the postholder will be encouraged to engage in key university activities, such as clearing, graduation ceremonies, student registration, and recruitment open days.

Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will hold a first degree in a subject relevant to health services research and have experience conducting interviews or focus groups and analysing qualitative data. Proficiency in qualitative analysis software, such as NVivo, and strong competence in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, are essential. The role requires excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and strong written, visual, and verbal communication abilities. The candidate must be able to prioritise tasks effectively and demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development, as well as a willingness to participate in workshops and conferences to support the dissemination of research findings.

Desirable attributes include experience working in a healthcare or applied health research setting, familiarity with behavioural and implementation science frameworks such as the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR), and experience conducting medication reviews in primary care. Additionally, knowledge of research systems, including NHS ethical and governance approval processes, and a track record of significant contributions to research manuscripts, such as first or corresponding authorship, would be advantageous.
