Role

Established in Cheltenham in 1996, the University of Gloucestershire’s Luminescence dating laboratory draws on the dosimetric properties of sedimentary quartz and feldspar to establish the timing of past environmental change and human evolution, dispersal and occupation. Its Luminescence dating service has been drawn upon by over 100 Universities, Archaeological Consultancies and Heritage-related bodies across more than 500 projects, both in the UK and Overseas. The Student Assistant in Luminescence dating will play a key supporting role to ensure day-to-day operations are maintained, with samples processed reliably and efficiently.
Duties and responsibilities
- Glassware preparation
- Sample crushing
- Aliquot disc preparation
- Other tasks of equivalent demand in the luminescence dating process by mutual agreement
Skills and experience
Essential:
- Experience of working or studying in a University laboratory
- Ability to maintain diligent, clear records
- Excellent communication skills
- Collaborative, cooperative and pro-active approach to work, with a track record of working to a high standard
- Experience of sample processing in a commercial setting

Additional information
- You'll often be working in limited red laboratory lighting conditions
- Must wear appropriate footwear (no open toed shoes)
- Interviews will include an assessment of visual acuity in limited, red laboratory lighting conditions
- Interviews will be conducted on 14/03/25
