Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Dissertation Supervisor in Digital Finance within the Civil, Environment & Geomatic Engineering department. The role is to work the date of 15th May 2025 and will run until 15th October 2025 part time at 7.3 hours per week. Payment is set at £22.66+ holiday pay per hour and the role will be HYBRID based.

The IFT runs three MSc programmes: the MSc Banking and Digital Finance, launched in 2019, the MSc Venture Capital and Private Equity with Financial Technology, launched in 2021 and the MSc Responsible Finance and Alternative Assets to be launched in 2023. The primary objectives of the programmes are to provide students with the tools and skills to understand the underlying concepts and practical trade-offs entailed in technology-led finance, quantitative finance, data analytics, investment and policy. The programmes emphasise the analytical and quantitative foundations of finance and financial products, focusing on theory and methods and making extensive use of relevant practical applications.
 
 

Duties and responsibilities
Supervision of MSc dissertations. This will include regular meetings with supervisees, reviewing and providing feedback on proposals, relevant literature, methodology and academic writing.

 
  • Support, guide and encourage students to work independently to produce original work.
  • Support industry collaborations, and dissertations carried out with industry partners, managing expectations and ensuring a high-quality experience for all stakeholders. 
  • Develop and strengthen the relationship between industry, research and academia.
  • Contribute to the development of teaching materials to support the dissertation module.
  • Mark dissertations in line with expertise and guidelines.

Skills and experience

  • PhD in relevant subject area
  • Experience of research within higher education
  • Experience of project supervision/mentoring
  • Ability to assess student work and provide effective feedback within the prescribed timescale
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to plan and organise effectively, manage workload and work to deadlines
  • Good IT skills
  • Being supportive, respectful and kind to others, with the ability to engage with students in a pastoral and supportive role
  • Anticipating issues and adjusting approaches when necessary
  • Commitment to and knowledge of advancing equality, diversity and inclusion
