Description
Role
We are looking for two summer interns to carry out research on topics in diversity and decolonisation in mathematics.
The interns will be working with maths staff to co-create a potential new module on the diverse history of mathematics, as well as develop a concrete plan on how our current mathematics curriculum can be diversified and decolonised.
The interns will work with maths staff led by Dr. Siri Chongchitnan, Dr. Helena Verrill and Dr. Ryan Acosta-Babb.
Duties and responsibilities
- Research the current provision of history of mathematics teaching at other universities.
- Co-create how a modern history of mathematics module might look like.
- Identify how our current maths curriculum could be diversified and decolonised.
- Create webpages and posters, and give presentations to promote their work.
Skills and experience
We are looking for candidates who:
- understand the importance of equality, diversity and inclusivity in the university environment and in the wider world
- understand the concept of academic decolonisation
- Enthusiastic about the history of mathematics
- Are good at scientific communication, both written and spoken.
