Description
Role
To develop and maintain the University’s outdoor sporting surfaces and facilities, safely and to the highest standards including to international competition level standards.
The shift pattern is: Monday to Wednesday 7am – 3pm and Thursday to Friday 7am to 2:30pm. You will work 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis.
This assignment will start ASAP until 27/7/25
Duties and responsibilities
- To carry out a range of sports amenity duties, including developing and maintaining the University’s outdoor sports facilities (including football, rugby, cricket and synthetic pitches) as per specific plans/to the required specification. This includes reporting any sports turf/grounds-related issues or hazards that are identified in the work area to the Team Leader (Grounds).
- To carry out grounds maintenance tasks, including, line painting, litter picking moving goals, divoting and tidying up and emptying bins.
- To use and maintain specialised machinery, tools and equipment. This includes keeping weekly records of machinery, tools and equipment used, and reporting to the Team Leader (Grounds) if any of these become unsafe for use or require repair or replacement.
- To prepare and apply sports turf/grounds products, including fertilisers, always having regard to the safety of the environment and others.
- To take part in the winter gritting and ice/snow clearing rota.
- To assist with emergency operations outside of working hours i.e. storm damage or flooding.
Skills and experience
Essential
- Educated to GCSE or equivalent standard
- Ability to undertake manual handling tasks, including the use of heavy machinery and digging
- Ability to plan work, organise and prioritise tasks
- Ability to complete necessary paperwork, for example time sheets and work orders
- Ability to take instruction and direction
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Aptitude for outside manual work and ability to work in all weather conditions throughout the year
Desirable:
- Level 2 Diploma in Sports Turf Management or equivalent qualifications, or working towards
- Full, clean UK or EU equivalent driving license
