Role
Unitemps are recruiting for two Overnight Wellbeing Officer within the Access & Widening Participation Office department. The OVERNIGHT role is to work the date of 2nd June 2025 and will run until 29th August 2025 full time at 36 hours per week . Payment is set at £22.66 + holiday pay per hour and the role will be CAMPUS based.
The UCL Access and Widening Participation Office delivers activities to encourage applications from students from socio-economic backgrounds currently under-represented in higher education. The Summer School is a five day residential. The Overnight Wellbeing Officer is responsible for providing pastoral support, guidance, and escalating any issues to senior members of staff throughout the evening.

The dates for this years Summer Schools are:
- Monday 21 July 2025 – Friday 25 July 2025
- Monday 18 August 2025 – Friday 22 August 2025
Duties and responsibilities
- Supervise Year 12 Students on the UCL Summer School overnight
- Work unsupervised with access to staff in the event of a serious incident or emergency
- Provide summer school participants with pastoral support if any issues arise in the night and address any behavioural concerns in a timely manner
- Problem solve and escalate to Access Team staff when appropriate
- Work collaboratively with fellow Overnight Wellbeing Officer to deliver appropriate support to students ensuring safeguarding policies are adhered to
- As this role is overnight, you will be working unsociable hours
- Follow and actively promote the UCL Ways of Working
- Carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager

Skills and experience
- Understanding of the aims and objectives of widening participation
- Understanding of the barriers to Higher Education that may affect participants
- Experience of working with children or young people, through paid or voluntary work
- Experience of providing pastoral support for young people or undergraduates
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- The ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, and particularly those from groups under-represented in Higher Education
- The ability to take initiative and resolve problems when needed
- The ability to take and give instructions effectively
- The ability to reflect on own performance and improve, and to respond well to constructive feedback
- Making inclusivity, diversity, and (inter)cultural awareness core to actions and decision making- Listening to others and supporting them with compassion
- Willing to try new ideas which may improve outcomes
Desirable Criteria
- Awareness of the HE application process and student funding
- A good knowledge of UCL and its student support services
