Role
The Annual Literary Leicester Festival is taking place this March, and we are looking for current University of Leicester students to support! This role will require students to support the Literary Leicester Festival by assisting in the organisation of individual events on the days of the Festival, and undertaking other activities such as distributing flyers on campus and various city locations a few weeks prior to the Festival. It will also require students to welcome Literary Leicester guests on the Festival days and be able to provide information they might need, such as, but not limited to: room locations, facilities, managing queues at book signings, etc

Working hours: Up to 20 hours per week. The main days of the Festival are 19-22 March 2025. The most intensive support will be required during this period (hours should not exceed 15-16 hours per week). Some hours will be allocated around two weeks prior to the Festival for helping with publicity (e.g. leafleting across venues in town)

Duties and responsibilities
•Welcoming guests at the door and showing them where to find rooms, facilities, places to eat and drink;

•Helping wheelchair users;
•Leaflet distribution (prior to, and during, the Festival), and putting up/taking down signage 
•Helping set up rooms at various Literary Leicester venues in preparation for the speakers, and clearing up after the events;
•Taking audience questions during the events;
•Helping set up the bookstalls with appropriate display and/or signage and managing queues for book signings  
•Helping procure refreshments etc. if requested by speakers

Skills and experience

Essential

•    Currently studying a degree in any subject and at any level at the University of Leicester.

•    Effective verbal communication skills to be able to engage with Literary Leicester guests, speakers, and staff. 

•    Ability to take initiative and be proactive when responding to enquiries.

•    Good team working skills with the ability to work collaboratively and co-operatively with fellow Literary Leicester student ambassadors and members of the executive committee. 

•    Flexible and positive approach to work to be able to adapt own skills to new circumstances.

•    Confident and professional manner and ability to act with discretion and diplomacy.

Desirable

•    Previous experience with Literary Leicester, or similar, events.

•    Previous experience in any customer-facing role.
