Role
Unitemps is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Information Support Assistant at the University of Salford. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the library, ensuring that resources are organised and accessible to all customers. This position requires strong organisational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and a passion for educating others about library services and resources.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively across Library spaces to ensure the maintenance and innovation of a high-quality library environment that meets the learning needs of our customers.
  • Ensure that customers have easy access to library resources and facilities.
  • Offer timely, accurate, and accessible answers to enquiries from library customers via a variety of contact channels.
  • Support and troubleshoot equipment provided within library spaces including printing, laptop lockers, and circulation machines.
  • Assist customers in locating and using library materials and resources.
  • Manage the circulation desk, including checking in and out library materials.
  • Organise and maintain library collections, ensuring that all items are properly shelved and catalogued.
  • Educate customers on library services, programmes, and digital resources available to them.
  • Support library events and initiatives by helping with planning, setup, and execution.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to enhance the overall library experience for visitors.
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming environment within the library.

 

Skills and experience

  • Previous experience in a library or similar environment is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Leadership qualities that enable you to work collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to educate customers effectively.
  • A genuine interest in books, literature, and community engagement is highly desirable.
