Description

Role

You will play a key role in managing curriculum and partnership approval processes within the Education Policy and Quality (EPQ) team. This role focuses on translating the University’s Education Strategy into clear policy, ensuring that course design, development, and approval align with regulatory frameworks.

Working as part of EPQ’s Course Approvals sub-team, you will collaborate with senior members of the Education Executive and academic colleagues across the University to ensure proposals for new and revised courses and partnerships are reviewed and processed effectively. Your responsibilities will include reviewing and applying internal and external policies and regulations, coordinating academic and financial scrutiny of proposals, and progressing proposals within agreed timeframes.

In addition to operational responsibilities, you will contribute to strategic projects such as developing a holistic curriculum management system and supporting Professional and Statutory Regulatory Body (PSRB) accreditation. While operational responsibility for module approval lies with the Modules, Marks, and Assessment Team, you will play a key role in ensuring alignment and consistency in course and module approval.

The ideal candidate will have the skills and mindset needed to work proactively, manage multiple tasks at pace, and make sound decisions within established frameworks. Prior experience of working in Higher Education Quality Assurance is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving abilities, the capacity to manage large volumes of information, and excellent skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders across the University are essential.

Applicants should provide a covering letter using the Skills and Experience criteria below as headings to demonstrate relevant evidence and experience.

About the Department

Education Policy and Quality (EPQ) helps ensure that Warwick offers a transformative, enriching and distinctive education to every student who studies here. Broadly speaking, our remit covers educational policy, strategy and governance and their role in creating a culture of continuous improvement.

We are a friendly and supportive team of around 30 colleagues across our Quality & Partnerships, Policy & Governance, Curriculum Management, and Operations teams. Most members of the team have ‘business-as-usual’ responsibilities in one of our Core Services and project responsibilities in one of our priority projects. We work with a wide group of stakeholders across the university and outside the university and play a key role in ensuring the policies and regulations are implemented fairly, consistently and proportionately.

Duties and responsibilities

1.    To deliver EPQ's core services relating to the quality assurance of its education provision, including by:

a.    Providing specialist advice and guidance to University staff and academic partners on the implementation of university policy and national frameworks in relation to the design, approval, PSRB accreditation and management of modules, programmes (including apprenticeships) and academic partnerships.

b.    Leading and managing a caseload of programmes and academic partnerships through the approval process for new and revised provision, exercising intellectual judgement as appropriate.

c.    Requesting and acting upon specialist advice to inform the holistic approval of new provision and academic partnerships as required to manage risk and ensure regulatory and legal compliance.

d.    Supporting the design and ongoing maintenance of relevant policy, process, guidance and systems.

e.    Recruiting, advising and supporting staff, student and external reviewers involved in the scrutiny of proposals.

f.    Managing the flow of information and reporting between different individuals, groups, committees and systems, such as regular reporting to committees on recently approved provision.

g.    Supporting the maintenance and publication of definitive records for the University's education provision.

h.    To support, advise and guide the work of university committees and groups to effectively fulfil their terms of reference, acting as Secretary or Assistant Secretary to committees assigned by the Director of Education Policy and Quality.

2.    To advise on quality assurance and education policy matters in relation to international education opportunities for students, including exchanges, student mobility and opportunities arising from the University's strategic alliances. To liaise with colleagues working in support of international student exchanges to bring these into the ambit of the Partnerships committee, ensuring their successful embedding as routine business.

3.    To contribute to the wider work of the EPQ team from time-to-time, including through the servicing of quality reviews, the development of projects and the delivery of events.

4.    To support academic governance arrangements through contributing to the servicing of ad hoc working groups.

5.    To contribute to major University events, such as Degree Congregation and University Open Days as appropriate.

  • 4.    Ability to define problems of moderate complexity where precedent does not exist, identify and appraise options, and recommend solutions.
  • 5.    Ability to use initiative and work autonomously with the potential to take forward multiple pieces of work at pace typically lasting between one and six months.
  • 6.    Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships, respect confidentiality, negotiate effectively and deal with staff and students in a sensitive and professional manner.
