Role
Reporting to the Academic Senior Invigilator, the Assistant Senior is responsible for managing examination rooms for centrally timetabled exams. This includes supervising supporting invigilators, overseeing the conduct of examinations to ensure compliance with the University’s Examination Regulations, and fostering a secure, confidential, and appropriate environment. The role ensures a consistent and fair examination experience for all students
Duties and responsibilities
Collect examination materials from the Examination Team and verify that all required items have been provided.
Manage the examination session, ensuring adherence to documented processes, procedures, and regulations.
Supervise and assign specific tasks to supporting invigilators during the examination session, including:
- Laying out examination materials;
- Recording attendance and verifying student identity;
- Collecting and reconciling examination scripts;
- Managing student entry to the examination room in compliance with examination regulations;
- Implementing reasonable adjustments in Alternative Exam Arrangements rooms as instructed by the Examinations Team;
- Making announcements at appropriate times;
- Accurately recording absences;
- Reporting examination paper queries to the Examination Team;
- Reporting suspected breaches of examination regulations or suspicious student behavior, completing and submitting relevant documentation;
- Submitting an Examination Room Report to the Examination Team.
Perform other duties as directed by the Academic Senior or the Examinations team, aligned with the role's responsibilities.
Skills and experience
- Good level of education (A level or equivalent qualifications or experience)
- Understanding of examination processes
- Good verbal and written communication skills including the ability to give clear and accurate instructions
- Ability to work without supervision
- Ability to follow documented processes and procedures
- Ability to comply with and enforce the University Examination Regulations
- Ability to supervise a team
- A flexible approach with the ability to adapt to changes at short notice
- Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality, with an awareness of GDPR
- Availability to work in the early evening and Saturdays
- Willingness to undertake training
- Experience of invigilation in an educational setting
