Role
Reporting to the Senior and Assistant Invigilator, the Support Invigilator is responsible for assisting in the management of examination rooms for centrally timetabled exams. This includes invigilating examinations to ensure compliance with the University’s Examination Regulations and fostering a secure, confidential, and appropriate environment. The role aims to provide all students with a consistent and fair examination experience.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist in managing an examination session, ensuring adherence to documented procedures and regulations, performing specific tasks including but not limited to:
- Assisting with laying out examination materials.
- Assisting with recording attendance and verifying student identity.
- Assisting with collecting and reconciling examination scripts.
- Facilitate student entry to the examination room in compliance with examination regulations.
- In Alternative Exam Arrangements rooms, ensure specific reasonable adjustments are provided for individual students as instructed by the Examination Team.
- Assist in accurately recording absent students.
- Assist in reporting any queries on examination papers to the Examination Team.
- Assist in reporting suspected breaches of examination regulations or suspicious student behaviour to the Examination Team, ensuring completion and submission of relevant documentation.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Examinations Team, the Senior and Assistant Senior in line with the role's responsibilities.
Skills and experience
- Good level of education (A level or equivalent qualifications or experience)
- Good verbal and written communication skills including the ability to give clear and accurate instructions
- Ability to work without supervision
- Ability to follow documented processes and procedures
- Ability to comply with and enforce the University Examination Regulations
- A flexible approach with the ability to adapt to changes at short notice
- Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality, with an awareness of GDPR
- Availability to work in the early evening and Saturdays
- Willingness to undertake training
