Role

The Change Maker Book Club has been designed to foster personal and professional development among Warwick students. Funded by the Faculty of Social Sciences Inclusive Education Fund, it aims to provide an open opportunity for all Warwick students across all study levels to participate in the Book Club.

The Student Project Officers will play a pivotal role in the development, management, and delivery of the Change Maker Book Club (CMBC) at Warwick. This interdisciplinary project aims to foster leadership, creativity, self-awareness, and problem-solving skills in students, encouraging personal and professional growth through reading and discussion. The Project Officers will lead on the co-creation of CMBC with other students and staff, help curate book lists, design engaging resources, facilitate discussions, and manage the overall running of the Book Club.

The project is seeking to recruit 3 students and applications from students from all Departments and study levels (undergraduate, postgraduate taught or research) are welcome!

The role’s contributions will be in several areas:

  • Engaging students in the Book Club by organising and facilitating book club sessions and activities that promote a sense of belonging and inclusion. The Project Officers will lead on the co-creation of an inclusive and vibrant community of Warwick students interested in personal development.
  • Co-creating the Book Club branding, resources, and templates so that the visual identity and brand of the Book Club is exciting, inclusive, and recognisable to all Warwick students.
  • Ensuring inclusivity and accessibility of the Book Club by engaging diverse group of students, suggesting and curating books, topics, and related activities that would reflect the interests and backgrounds of the Warwick student community.

By listening to the student voice, the Project Officers will evaluate the Book Club's impact on participants, their sense of belonging and inclusion, and overall Book Club experience.

The role’s contribution throughout the process will be exceptionally valued to ensure the delivery and dissemination of inclusive and impactful project outputs. The role will offer opportunities for developing resources that can potentially be shared with communities outside of Warwick and the UK, highly sought after in any industry facilitation skills, and scholarly publications in collaboration with the project lead.

Duties and responsibilities

As the CMBC Project Officer your duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Coordinate Book Club activities such as meetings and events, ensuring smooth and inclusive delivery of all sessions.
  • Lead or support the facilitation of Book Club discussions, fostering an open and inclusive environment.
  • Design and curate Book Club materials (e.g. templates, reflective prompts, exercises) by collaborating with other students and staff to select and refine reading lists based on student feedback, academic interests, and personal development goals.
  • Collaborate with staff, other student, and external speakers to enhance the Book Club’s content and engagement.
  • Suggest interesting and creative ideas, mediums (e.g. podcasts), and ways to engage diverse students in the Book Club.
  • Monitor and evaluate the development of the Book Club through feedback and participation, adjusting the Book Club’s themes and direction where necessary. This includes gathering student feedback formally and informally.

Skills and experience

Required:

  1. Must be a student at Warwick University. Applications from students from all Departments and study levels (undergraduate, postgraduate taught or research) are welcome!
  2. Strong passion for personal development.
  3. Enthusiasm for reading and fostering personal and professional growth among peers.
  4. Strong organisational skills and an ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups of students.
  6. Confidence in approaching and gathering feedback from other Warwick students.
  7. Sensitivity towards working with diverse students and handling student feedback and ideas.
  8. Comfortable managing workload independently.
  9. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.
  10. Resilience and ability to manage the project alongside other potential deadlines and commitments (e.g. exams).

Desired:

  1. Previous co-creation experience.
  2. Leadership and facilitation experience.
  3. Experience or willingness to learn about design, branding, social media (in order to enhance the identity of the Book Club).
  4. Ability to resolve creative tensions and disagreements when working in a team.

Location
Combination of working on campus (e.g. to engage with book club members and meet ups) and working from home (e.g. to develop resources and templates)
