Role
The Library Services team are currently looking for Service Assistant's to join their team.
Duties and responsibilities
Principal duties
1. To answer enquiries on site library services, resources and facilities.
2. To operate circulation services at the service desks - including issue, return and renewal of books and other materials; collection of fines and other monies; updating of user records.
3. To re-shelve items returned from loan and those used within the library and to tidy the shelves as directed.
4. To assist in maintaining an appropriate study environment for library users.
5. To take direction from the supervisor on duty assisting in administrative tasks commensurate with grade.
6. To liaise with other library staff, University and security colleagues to maintain the library facilities
7. To attend training sessions on an agreed basis.
Skills and experience
Qualifications
1. 2 A Levels or equivalent qualifications.
Experience
2. Experience in a customer service environment.
Skills and abilities
3. Ability to file in decimal number order and alphabetical order.
4. Good verbal and written communication skills.
5. Ability to use a library effectively e.g. Search a library catalogue and locate items.
6. Ability to offer good customer service including the ability to deal tactfully with people.
7. Good IT skills including internet technologies and the ability to use a computer database to retrieve information.
8. Methodical approach to work and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
9. Good timekeeping and regularity of attendance.
10. Ability to work individually and in small teams

Working days: Mondays Wednesdays Saturdays
Working hours: Weekdays 17.00 - 21.00, Weekends (Saturdays - 12.00-18.00)
Shift patterns:
Role 1 Monday and Wednesday (Bayes Business Library).
Role 2 Wednesday and Saturday (Northampton Square Library)
Role 3 Wednesday and Saturday Northampton Square Library.
