Description
Role
Open to current DMU students only
Financial wellbeing is about more than just managing money effectively – it's about developing a positive and empowering relationship with money that enables individuals to feel confident, in control, and optimistic about their future. The MoneySmart Futures project recognises that our relationship with money profoundly impacts our sense of self-worth, the choices we believe are available to us, and our aspirations for the future. When students feel financially empowered, they are better positioned to engage fully with their studies, pursue opportunities, and work towards their goals without being held back by financial anxiety or limiting beliefs about what's possible.
This innovative project aims to transform how students think about and engage with money through embedded support at the programme level including a series of MoneySmart Futures Workshops and peer mentoring support. While practical financial skills are important, we will also focus on building confidence, and helping students see money as an enabler of their aspirations rather than a source of stress or limitation. Money Matters Mentors play a vital role in this transformation by facilitating open conversations about money, sharing their own experiences, and helping fellow students connect with resources that can support both their practical needs and personal growth. By building trust and understanding across diverse cultural perspectives, mentors help break down stigma around money discussions and create pathways to support that acknowledge both the practical and emotional aspects of financial wellbeing.
Working as part of DMU's innovative MoneySmart Futures project, Money Matters Mentors will help promote financial wellbeing among their fellow students through peer support, awareness raising, and signposting to student money advice services (student welfare team). This role focuses on creating supportive conversations about money management while helping to reduce stigma around financial discussions. Peer mentors are not expected (or permitted) to give financial advice.
