Role
The Research Fellow is a contract-based research-focused role. As a Research Fellow, you will be responsible for delivering tasks and work packages related to a research project and involved in research related to the Supplier Risk and Resilience Rating. You will drive the foundation research and be involved in activities that will make an impact.
Working with the PI and project lead, the post holder will lead in developing and delivering Supply Chain related research for our automotive industry client.
In your role, you will specifically focus on Supplier Risk and Resilience Rating related aspects of the project, which seeks to
- Understand the current practices of supplier prioritisation and the current supplier capability assessment engagement process within client’s organisation.​
- Identify Supplier Risk/Resilience Rating best-in-class practices of supplier triage (prioritisation) and engagement (supplier capability assessment) process through literature review and find the use cases across the world.
- Support on stakeholder engagement via workshops, focus groups or interviews to collect industry insight of supplier risk and resilience rating and benchmark with client’s approach.​
- Based on the findings, develop an improved triage practice, logic/suggestions of risky supplier prioritisation to help client utilise their resources efficiently.​
This role will position you alongside industrial experts and tackling the frontline supply chain practical problems through impactful research.
Duties and responsibilities
Research and scholarship
1. Establish a sound research base within the department in order to develop research objectives, projects and proposals.
2. Identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds to support a developing research agenda.
3. Extend, transform and apply the knowledge acquired from scholarship to research and appropriate external activities.
4. Write or contribute to publications or disseminate research findings using other appropriate media.
5. Make presentations at conferences or exhibit work in other appropriate events.
6. Routinely communicate complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding as well as to peers using high level skills and a range of media.
Administration and Other Activities
1. Collaborate actively within and outside of the institution to complete research projects and advance thinking.
2. May be required to attend departmental meetings and to participate (where necessary) in other committees and working groups within the department, the faculty and the University.
3. Participate in relevant professional activities.
4. Ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work and, when appropriate, undertake risk assessments.
5. Participate in and develop external networks, for example to identify sources of funding, generate income, obtain projects, or build relationships for future activities.
Skills and experience
- Good honours degree and possession of a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline (Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering or Engineering Management, Energy Systems)
- A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of current issues and future directions in applied operations and supply chain research and issues and their application in the context of the supplier risk and resilience rating
- Knowledge and experience of supply chain mapping, modelling and tool development and relevant research methods
- Proven ability and achievements in research, demonstrated by high quality publications record or equivalent output.
- Proven contribution to research grant applications and the ability to generate external funding to support research projects
- Sufficient breadth or depth of Supply Chain knowledge develop research programmes and methodologies.
- Understanding of equal opportunity issues as they may impact on areas of research content.
- Good effective communication (oral and written) skills, presentation and training skills
- Ability and willingness to work as a member of a team and contribute positively to a collegial team environment and to be able to work independently
- Ability to initiate, plan organise, implement and deliver programmes of work to tight deadlines
- Ability to write research reports and papers in styles accessible to both academic and, where relevant, industry audiences
