Description
Role
We are looking for a Research Assistant (RA) for the project “Can digital goods be neutral? Evaluating OpenStreetMap's equity through participatory data visualisation”, funded by the ESRC Digital Good Network and led by Carlos Cámara and Timothy Monteath. The RA will be involved in the co-design process of data visualisations about specific aspects of OpenStreetMap and will be responsible for the development of the data visualisations resulting from the process.
The candidate should have experience in producing data visualisations, working with geospatial data and a keen interest in equity, feminism and/or intersectionality. Knowledge of OpenStreetMap is not required but will be desirable.

Duties and responsibilities
- Attend to co-design meetings with project’s stakeholders.
- Discussing and assisting in developing project goals with the PIsDevelop data visualisations following decisions from the co-design process.
- Extract and process the required data from OpenStreetMap resources (APIs, Forum, Wiki…).
- Recording steps taken, documenting work and organising files and documents.
Skills and experience
- Experience in using R to produce high-quality data visualisations.
- Experience in visualising geospatial data.
- Experience in data gathering and manipulation using computational methods.
- Excellent time management skills and initiative.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a small team and to deadlines.
Desirable
- APIs querying for data extraction.
- Experience in co-design or participatory methodologies.
- Knowledge about OpenStreetMap.
Location
Hybrid (on campus and working from home)
