Unitemps are recruiting for a Research Assistant in Sustainable Finance within the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose department. The role is to work ASAP and will run until 30th June 2025 part time at 7 hours per week . Payment is set at £20.15 + holiday pay per hour and the role will be HYBRID based.
The Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP) is a department within UCL and part of The Bartlett faculty, known internationally for its radical thinking about space, design and sustainability. The mission of IIPP is to change how public value is imagined, practiced and evaluated to tackle societal challenges—and, by doing this, deliver economic growth that is innovation-led, sustainable and inclusive. UCL’s Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP) is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to support the activities of Lydia Marsden and Josh Ryan-Collins in the research group.
The RA will support on a research project related to sustainable financial policy, funded by the World Wide Fund for Nature. This project aims to map financial flows to and investments in companies operating in biodiversity-critical ecosystems that could collapse in “tipping points” and develop related policy recommendations for central banks and financial supervisors. The ideal candidate will have experience with programming software such as R or Python for data analysis.
Duties and responsibilities
- Work with the lead researcher to improve our data analysis pipeline such as integrating automated matching procedures and creating a database system.
- Conduct desk-based research on real economy policies, financial policies, and companies that relate to the ecosystems we focus on.
- Assist with finalising results and report writing, under supervision of the lead researcher.
- Support the planning and delivery of any related events such as webinars and roundtables.

Skills and experience
- Enrolled on or graduated from IIPP’s Master in Public Administration programme or PhD programme
- Interest in the economics of climate change, nature loss and/or sustainable finance.
- Experience using programming software such as R or Python for quantitative data analysis.
- Organisational and project management skills
- Strong quantitative and data analysis skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds
