Description
Role
Working across campus and within the Career Hub, Future Makers provide information about the Careers & Employability Service as well as support the mass engagement of students by encouraging students to access these.
The role consists of taking a proactive approach in supporting students in resolving queries, promoting relevant opportunities as well as assisting in the delivery of careers related activities including Recruitment Fairs and workshops.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain paid work experience whilst supporting fellow students and staff within the Careers service. The role also provides ample opportunity to enhance your skill set and in turn you will be able to add evidence of transferable skills developed to your CV.
This role is suitable for first and second year undergraduates who want to work as a Future Maker next academic year (September 2025 - June 2026). There will be paid training in March/April 2025 (dates to be confirmed).
Interested candidates are invited to join an information and Q&A session on Wednesday 15th January, 1:30 – 2:30pm in the Career Hub. This session will tell you more about the role and what is expected from members of the team, as well as providing hints and tips to for your application. Please note that the pay rate will change in April 2025 in line with increase to the National Living Wage.
Duties and responsibilities
- Respond to Careers & Employability enquiries from students in person and online
- Promote Careers & Employability activities (e.g., 1-2-1 appointments, workshops and events) to students through in person and online communication channels
- Creating and promoting social media content
- Source and promote opportunities for students to apply for by adding them to online opportunity boards and promotional channels including social media
- Provide a front of house service (I.e., answer questions from students, help students make appointments, signposting to relevant events and activities)
- Support the planning and delivery of workshops and events
Skills and experience
Essential
- Currently studying at the University of Leicester
- Experience of public speaking or presenting
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent time management skills (reliable and punctual)Good problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint)
Desirable
- Have undertaken a work-related experience (placement, internship)
- Experience of creating social media content
- Experience of working in a customer service environment
- Experience of attending an appointment or careers event in the last 12 months
- Experience of promoting and recommending activities to people
