ICUR 2025 Panel Facilitator (3 roles available)

The International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR). is an annual, two-day academic conference celebrating excellence in undergraduate research worldwide. It provides undergraduate researchers with a unique opportunity to present their research in real-time, video-linked sessions, connecting from their home campus to interdisciplinary, international audiences.  ICUR 2025 will take place between 18th – 19th June.

ICUR is student-centred and student-led. We are hiring Panel Facilitators to work from Jan – Jun 2025 as part of a broader student team who work with our staff team to support ICUR presenters up to and during the conference.

Panel Facilitators work as part of an international team of staff and students to build and support the ICUR interdisciplinary research community through:

  • Providing peer mentorship to and helping to coordinate a group of international student presenters.
  • Hosting and chairing internationally linked sessions at ICUR 2025.
  • Participating in the abstract review process, working with other staff and students to review and provide feedback to abstracts submitted for ICUR 2025.
  • Attending and engaging actively with the conference as audience members.

Successful candidates will be paid for all elements of this role, including training. Over the assignment, Panel Facilitators will also benefit from development of professional skills such as public speaking, mentorship, communication, and intercultural awareness; experience of working within international, interdisciplinary teams; Warwick Award accreditation; and more.

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from students who are passionate about diversifying the field of academic research and creating an inclusive space for undergraduate researchers, as well as supporting peers in feeling confident about their work. We are actively seeking candidates from a variety of departments, subjects, and backgrounds.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Attend training as required for the role.
  • Review and provide feedback to abstracts submitted for ICUR 2025 as part of the Abstract Review process.
  • Coordinate, provide mentorship and individualised advice to, and support presenters in your assigned panels during the lead up to the conference by acting as an ambassador for the conference platform; assisting with queries; organising practice panels; and providing advice and peer support as needed.
  • Contribute to fostering a supportive interdisciplinary research community at ICUR 2025 by facilitating conversations between panellists, engaging members of the audience, and encouraging participation.
  • Work as part of an international team of staff and students to host and chair internationally linked virtual sessions at ICUR 2025 (including introducing and facilitating panels and managing Q&As).
  • Attend and engage actively with conference proceedings.

Applicants must be available to come onto campus when needed during the week of the conference (16th – 19th Jun). All Panel Facilitators must attend the full days of the conference (18th – 19th Jun).

All current Warwick undergraduates based at the University of Warwick are encouraged to apply for this role (if you are currently on a year abroad, you are not eligible). Visa status and any attendant working hour restrictions will be discussed at interview, with flexible arrangements possible for the right candidate(s).

Skills and experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to create a welcoming, supportive environment for presenters and audience
  • Experience and/or strong interest in undergraduate research
  • Experience and/or strong interest in interdisciplinary environments, communication, and engagement
  • Experience and/or strong interest in providing peer support to students
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) skills

  • Be enrolled (and based) at the University of Warwick as an undergraduate for the duration of the academic year 2024-25.

Location
Combination of working from home and on campus (University of Warwick). Compulsory on-campus availability for training sessions and the week of the conference (16th – 19th June 2025).
