This internship offers a unique opportunity to create a meaningful impact by capturing and sharing inspiring stories of women in STEM. You will work to document the journeys of women from diverse ethnic, cultural, and financial backgrounds who pursued STEM fields. These stories will highlight their inspirations, challenges, and triumphs, aiming to inspire current students, educate male colleagues and peers, and challenge stereotypes about who belongs in STEM.
Our ideal candidate is creative, empathetic, and passionate about storytelling and diversity in education. You will develop skills in content creation, videography, and outreach while working collaboratively with students, alumni, and professionals to craft a compelling narrative.
Duties and responsibilities

Collaborate with female students, alumni, and academics to collect and document their stories.

Conduct interviews to understand their motivations, challenges, and unique perspectives in pursuing STEM fields.

Create a documentary or series of short films highlighting these stories, capturing both personal journeys and the broader message of diversity in STEM.

Research and identify inspiring alumni or professionals who can contribute to the project.

Develop a structured storytelling framework to ensure each narrative is impactful and authentic.

Assist with video editing, scripting, and post-production for professional-quality outputs.

Generate promotional content (e.g., teasers, social media snippets) to create buzz around the project.

Collaborate with outreach teams to ensure the content is aligned with the university's goals of promoting inclusivity in STEM.

Document the project process and maintain an organized archive of materials for future use.
Skills and experience
Essential:
-
Passion for storytelling, diversity, and empowering women in STEM.
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport during interviews.

Basic videography and photography skills (using tools such as DSLR cameras or smartphones).

Familiarity with video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar).

Creative thinking and the ability to craft engaging narratives from raw interviews and footage.

Organizational and project management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.

Ability to work empathetically with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Desirable:

Studying in a relevant area such as media, film, journalism, communications, or STEM fields.

Experience with storytelling projects or creating digital content (e.g., short films, documentaries, blogs).

Understanding of gender diversity issues in STEM and the barriers faced by women.

Experience with promotional strategies for outreach and engagement.
