This role is an exciting opportunity for you if you would like to learn a thing or two about communications, digital content, and events. The Strategic Communications Intern role is designed to show you what it is like working in a busy and dynamic communications team and we’ll help you to develop key transferable skills you can take with you into the real world.
You will work closely with our Strategic Communications and Content Team to support the development and delivery of content to engage our staff, students, partners and others with our University’s work and what makes us special.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communications and content, including for the University’s website and intranet; event planning; and our brand and tone of voice, all the while strengthening your organisational, people and other transferable skills.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Graduation 2025 preparation:
Our team is involved in planning of Graduation ceremonies every year, working closely with many teams to make sure that everything goes smoothly. You will support the team with tasks to prepare for Graduation, for example writing event briefings for the ceremonies for those on stage, including our Vice-Chancellor and Deans.
2. Strategy Refresh Communications and Content:
We are currently refreshing our Strategy, which is an important document that sets out the future direction for our University, and will work on communications to introduce it to our staff, students, partners and other communities we work with. You would support us to create presentations and visuals for workshops, events and webpages to present our Strategy and engage our colleagues, students and others.
3. Website, intranet and administrative support:
We look after several pages on our external website and the whole staff intranet. You will help us to make sure that they are:

Accessible – digital accessibility is very important to us and you will be trained to help us to meet accessibility requirements including by ensuring documents and PDFs are accessible

Up-to-date – working with our team of designers to update presentations, infographics, org charts, and diagrams about the University.
You may also be asked carry out any other tasks that come up and which are in line with the scope, spirit and purpose of the internship, as requested by the line manager and required to support the overall Strategic Communications and Content Team.
Skills and experience
Essential
-
Interest in communications, content and copywriting, and enthusiastic to learn more about these areas

Significant experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Understanding of basic communications principles and channels

Attention to detail
-
Organisational skills and ability to prioritise

Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Desirable
-
Studying in a relevant area such as communications, media, marketing, or advertising, public relations and branding

Experience/knowledge of editing PDFs using Adobe Acrobat
-
Experience writing for one or more audiences

Understanding of digital accessibility.
