Description

Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Temporary Research Assistant for the Energy Older Adults Project. This is a full-time role at 37.5 hours per week. This role is for a January 6th start date and will be for 3 months in total. Payment is set at 21.01 + holiday pay per hour. This role is UCL campus based role.

Energy technologies are growing more sophisticated in their ability to visualise information and present granular cost updates for people. However, there is a need to understand how these technologies are serving the needs of older adults and to understand ways of visualising and presenting energy data for this population (people aged 65+).

This project is part of a larger UKRI-funded project called DigiAge between UCL and Lancaster University. The project aims to understand how to embed equity into the design of technologies for older people. In particular, we are interested in developing new energy solutions for people aged 65+ that can help to engage with their data and energy needs.

The RA will report to to Dr. Aneesha Singh (aneesha.singh@ucl.ac.uk) and will help with designing and testing visual or tangible solutions for a novel energy systems interface with older adults to support them to explore energy related data and associated costs to serve their needs.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To design a system for supporting informed and equitable energy interactions with older adults.
  • To conduct user research and help to run a user study.
  • Produce either a visual (2D) or tangible (3D) prototype suitable for older adults (people 65+) to engage with their energy.
  • The post holder will actively follow UCL policies including Equal Opportunities and Race Equality policies
  • The post holder will maintain an awareness and observation of Fire and Health & Safety Regulations
  • The postholder will carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager.

Skills and experience

We are looking for a Computer Science/Engineering/Human-Computer Interaction researcher with design or prototyping skills to develop a visual or tangible solution, and ideally HCI skills to test working prototypes with users.
  • Excellent organisational, prototyping and user research skills are needed for this role.
  • This role would suit someone doing a postgraduate degree, or a graduate/ postgraduate wanting short-term, full-time work.
