Role
We are pleased to invite applications for a fixed-term role to support a NHS Race and Health Observatory funded project to explore current practices in healthcare education that are aiming to raise student awareness of racialised inequities as well as develop strategies to address them. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a large-scale review of pre and post qualifying education, to co-produce a series of case studies to assist in the dissemination.
The post-holder will work alongside a team of multidisciplinary researchers and other stakeholders such as students and grass roots communities that represent diverse ethnic minority groups. The post holder will work alongside the principal investigators to facilitate the project and members of the co-creator group using co-production principles. Using anti-racist methodologies, the post holder will work in collaboration to review the literature, summarise the findings and produce recommendations. The post-holder will also take a lead role in identifying potential case studies from the literature and facilitating the co-creation of these for dissemination in multiple formats for varying audiences. The post-holder will also take a significant role in the final stage of the project and hosting a knowledge mobilisation event.
Candidates will be required to have research experience as well as practical/working knowledge of race and ethnic inequalities within communities.
The post-holder must have experience in conducting interpersonal research, with a proven skill in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Proven experience in project management is highly desirable.
Duties and responsibilities
Main Duties
Work alongside the Principal Investigators and the research team to develop a rigorous anti-racist literature review strategy with planned research outputs
Contribute to the establishment and facilitation of the co-creator group with multiple stakeholders (students and community groups)
Facilitate the development and implementation of the literature review process
Coordinate producing accessible written summaries of insights gained from literature
Coordinate the application for ethics for stage 3 of the project (co-creating case studies)
Carry out relevant data collection methods (qualitative or quantitative) in collaboration with the research team and stakeholders Carry out quantitative and qualitative analysis on data gathered from a range of methods
Contribute to producing outputs in various formats (written, visual, verbal etc) for publication, conferences, final reports and materials for dissemination.
Attend and contribute to co-creation group and project reference group meetings Undertake such other duties that are allocated by the Principal Investigator(s) /Project Lead(s)
Skills and experience
Qualifications and Training
Educated to Degree level or equivalent in an area aligned to research activity
Postgraduate qualification/research (e.g. PhD, MRES) in an area aligned to research activity
Experience and Knowledge
Experience of delivering contract research projects for external funders
Experience of research around race and health inequalities in education
Experience and practical knowledge of working with race and ethnic inequalities within communities
Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research
Experience of conducting and developing case studies from interviews/ focus groups
Experience of working with Excel, SPSS, NVivo, online survey tools
Evidence of working in and contributing to a successful team
Skills and Attributes
Previous experience of using co-production principles in practice or research
Appreciation of the ethics associated with research and development and working on sensitive topics
Excellent attention to detail
Strong listening, communication, and collaboration skills
