Role
Unitemps are recruiting for a Operations Assistant. This is a full-time role at 37.5 hours per week. This role is for an asap start date (early December) and has a projected end date of February 29th 2025. Payment is set at 16.37 + holiday pay per hour. This role is UCL Campus based.
The Division of Biosciences has an outstanding international reputation, ranking 8th in the QS World University Rankings for biological sciences. We host a community of over 500 staff covering a diverse portfolio from protein interactions to cell function, organism development, genetics, population studies, to ecology and the environment. Much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, and we sit at the nexus of a broad range of interdisciplinary collaborations across UCL Our activity is underpinned by high calibre science technology platforms and state of the art equipment, and a substantial number of postgraduate research students integrated within doctoral research programmes.
The Division offers a range of undergraduate programmes and an expanding number of Masters Programmes. Research is integrated into our degrees giving students the opportunity to experience original contributions to their field of study.
Duties and responsibilities
The Operations Assistant provides a range of general support functions to the Operations Team and the departments of the Division of Biosciences.
The role covers several functions, including:
- Operation of communal glass cleaning and autoclaving equipment,
- Laboratory housekeeping services,
- Managing the laboratory laundry service,
- Reporting defects with equipment and infrastructure (and following up on remedial works), and
- Providing coordination with contractors (for Operations and/or Estates).
The job involves working as part of a team in this client-facing role therefore it requires a high degree of teamwork and a friendly “can-do” approach to customer service in a busy, high-pressured environment.

Skills and experience
- A-Level or other level 3 qualification or equivalent experience is essential, as is experience of working in the higher education sector or a laboratory environment.
- Experience of dealing with a diverse customer base and providing customer service, including problem resolution and excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan, prioritise and manage your own workload.
