The internship position will assist the lawyers across the teams of Legal Services within the City Law & Governance Directorate, the in-house legal team of Liverpool City Council. Our Service have specialist lawyers in the key areas of public sector law in the following teams: Legal Practice & Business, Child Protection, Property & Regeneration, Commercial Law, Planning & Regulatory, and Adult Social Care & Litigation. This internship position will be within the Legal Practice & Business Team assisting the Head/Deputy Head of Legal Practice & Business.

Duties and responsibilities
Main duties will all be subject to appropriate supervision and will include legal research, drafting legal documentation, attendance at meetings and conferences, preparing and maintaining file/computer records and client liaison. Support may also be required from the successful applicant in terms of data collection and analysis of Legal Services case management system and benchmarking information received from core cities in relation to a review of the service provided.

Skills and experience
Knowledge of public sector law is preferred but not essential. No specific qualifications or experience are required but the candidate should be: 

• a critical thinker with an open mind 
• able to sift the relevant from the irrelevant 
• willing to learn 
• able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with various professions and agencies, using standard Microsoft applications 
• able to work under pressure and to meet guidelines 
• able to take comprehensive and accurate notes of meetings and/or evidence at court
