Description
Role
To be responsible for the input, maintenance and quality of student and curriculum data on the University’s student information system (MISIS) including development of new digital processes for managing student data. To ensure effective communication with Assessment Managers and Faculties to support the full student data cycle. To be the business partner for data matters for one or more Faculties.
At peak times of activity, the Data Administrators will be required to support the work of other activities in the Academic Registry, including Confirmation and Clearing, assessment, exam invigilation and the graduation ceremonies.
General duties:
- To assist in the production of reports and statistical information on students, programmes and modules for internal and external purposes.
- To deliver staff training in relation to MISIS and student and curriculum data through both formal and informal means.
- To undertake training and staff development as appropriate to the grade and nature of the post.
- The above list of tasks is not exhaustive and working as part of the Academic Registry, the post-holder will be expected to work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team providing cover and assistance when necessary.

Duties and responsibilities
Student Data
- Ensure student information on MISIS is accurate and up to date including programmes, module registrations and the general student records change management.
- To be a named Business Partner for student data matters for one or more Faculties.
- Using MISIS reporting, and other methods, to establish and maintain data quality assurance processes.
- To monitor student data for accuracy and completeness and to take pro-active action to implement data improvements, with a full understanding of the wider impact of any data changes.
- To assist in the preparations and developments for external data returns (including those to the Office for Students (OFS) and Higher Education Statistical Agency (HESA) including an understanding of the significance of data issues in the external HE environment and the ability to apply that knowledge in the management of internal data.
- Work as part of the Student Records team to respond to student enquiries, particularly with regard to programme and module registrations and timetabling including the use of ES2 software for managing students’ enquiries in an efficient and customer focused way.
- To support the testing and implementation of developments and upgrades to MISIS.
Curriculum data key tasks
- Ensure module, programme and subject information on MISIS is up to date and accurate.
- Update and maintain the Curriculum and Programme Planning (CAPP) area of MISIS to enable timetable allocations and bulk registration processing. Input programme targets and optional module % to MISIS, working to deadlines set by the Timetabling team annual schedule.
- To work with Faculties, the Centre for Academic Practice Enhancement (CAPE) and others to ensure that Key information Set data is an accurate representation of University programme activity.
- To work with Schools, the Academic Quality Service (AQS), CAPE and others to ensure that there is an effective flow of information between departments in relation to module, programme and subject data.
- To provide curriculum data reports and to undertake curriculum data validation and monitoring of curriculum data quality.

Education / Qualifications
Essential:
- Educated to degree level or possess other equivalent and relevant experience.

- Experience of student administration

- Experience of using MS Office products to a good standard, including MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel

- Experience of project work
- Experience of using Excel & other reporting tools to interrogate large datasets.

- Familiarity with using and reporting from large relational databases
- Familiarity with the higher education student lifecycle

- Proven ability to liaise with various levels of staff across a large organization
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work with a range of staff.
- Articulate, with the ability to communicate with both IT literate and non-IT literate individuals using a variety of methods.
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload, particularly during peak periods of activity
