Role
The University of Leicester are currently recruiting a Programmes Assistant to support the ELTU Programme Administration Team Leader to administer the full cycle of their student short courses over the busy January - March 2024 period. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working in a busy and friendly university department with a strong customer service and international focus.

 
Please note this role is full time 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and is not suitable for current undergraduate or postgraduate students.
 
Interviews for this role are expected to take place on Tuesday 3rd December 2024. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting with course arrangements in liaison with the programme directors, team leader, International CPD coordinator and tutors. Assisting with the planning and booking of events, social activities and travel by liaising with suppliers via phone and email
  • Creating briefs, distributing information and communicating to students and staff via Blackboard and email
  • Coordinating the University of Leicester student “Study Buddy” workforce, maintaining an accurate database of availability and shifts
  • Supporting with the registration and welcoming of students
  • Answering enquiries, giving pre-departure advice and information 
  • Maintaining the student programme databases and registers, providing data on request
  • Providing day to day general advice and support to students, chasing for information where needed
  • Acting as chaperone on course excursions
  • Assisting with airport transfers and accommodation check in / check out
  • Animating social activities and actively engaging with students
  • Assisting with the production of end of course reports and certificates
  • Ad hoc duties supporting the wider administration team

Skills and experience
Essential:

  • *A minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grades A-C) or equivalent qualification, or with equivalent skills and experience
  • *Demonstrable IT competence including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • *Experience of accurate record keeping
  • *A basic understanding of and empathy with the needs of international students
  • Cultural awareness
  • The ability and desire to work with students from a range of nationalities and backgrounds
  • *The ability and confidence to liaise with external organisations such as suppliers, partner universities and agents
  • *The ability to work independently and as part of a team and willingness to make a positive contribution to wider team activity
  • *Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • *Willingness and ability to undertake work outside normal working hours, e.g. attending evening or weekend events, occasional early starts on registration days or for airport pick ups.

Desirable:

  • Experience of studying or working at university, ideally at the University of Leicester
  • Experience of studying or living in a different country

Location
University of Leicester – both on main campus in the Fielding Johnson building and at Stamford Court in Oadby (opposite John Foster hall).
