Role
The University of Edinburgh is currently offering a part-time opportunity for a student to join the Digital Skills, Design and Training Team as a Digital Safety Intern. The team provides a range of resources, such as a Web Hub, training sessions, and events, whilst supporting the University’s commitment for digital skills and literacy development. Within this role, you will plan and deliver marketing, events and promotional campaigns, and create engaging student-focused materials such as videos, podcasts and infographics to promote digital safety, wellbeing and citizenship.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to gain experience in designing and delivering events to promote Digital Safety to students, whilst developing your communication abilities.

You can expect to start work on the week commencing the 9th December 2024, and work until November 2025. The student can expect to work 7 hours per week, in-person in Argyle House. The pay for this role is £15.82 per hour plus £2.86 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th January 2025.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Providing updated guidance through the Digital Safety, Wellbeing and Citizenship website and supporting the integration of Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) concepts into the updated guidance;
  • Developing and delivering student-focused events and workshops, to promote digital safety, wellbeing and citizenship;
  • Communicating with new and existing contacts within Schools and Departments in the University to encourage engagement with digital safety resources;
  • Designing, promoting, and delivering digital safety guidance for students, and staff in student support roles.

Skills and experience

Essential criteria:

  • A current University of Edinburgh student (this post is designated for UoE student employment; therefore, you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). You also must not hold the position of ‘Resident Assistant’;
  • Based in the UK for the duration of the work, able to work on campus when required (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if needed;
  • Proven strong written and verbal presentation skills, with the ability to present sensitive information effectively;
  • Evidence of creating engaging digital resources, such as infographics and promotional materials;
  • Demonstrable interest for Digital Skills Development, particularly related to digital safety, wellbeing and citizenship.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Evidence of previous experience in digital safety, wellbeing or support roles;
  • Proven effective time management, with an ability to coordinate your own activities and workload;
  • Demonstrable experience in coordinating, hosting or speaking at public events.

On-campus, based in Argyle House, Edinburgh
