Role

The Scholar Ambassador Scheme plays a key role in showcasing the tangible impact of donation on student lives, fostering stronger connections with alumni and donors, and inspiring further philanthropic support for the University of Warwick.

 By sharing your story and experiences, as an ambassador you will create a powerful connection between donors and the beneficiaries of their support. Our ambassadors not only cultivate a sense of gratitude and satisfaction among our donor community, but also inspire them to continue supporting the University’s mission.

 The positive impact stories shared by our Scholar Ambassadors will also attract new supporters, and encourage existing donors to continue their support, ultimately contributing to an increase in philanthropic income and therefore the number of students in receipt of financial support in the years to come.

 This opportunity is open to first and second-year undergraduate students, postgraduate students joining Warwick, and research students in their first or second year at Warwick.

Please note: This role is aim primarily at students who are recipients of a scholarship administered by the Development and Alumni Engagement team, but we are also keen for students to act as ambassadors for other key schemes in which students receive financial support. Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist with campus tours for alumni and donors visiting the University of Warwick.
  • Help organise campus tours by attending pre-briefings for donor or prospect visits.
  • Potentially support fundraising efforts within the Development and Alumni Engagement Department, including assisting with events and other ad-hoc activities.
  • May be asked to voluntarily attend the annual Student Support Event.
  • Provide support with photography, videography, or other content creation based on your skillset and interests.
  • Invited to attend donor meetings online on an ad-hoc basis, depending on your course and area of interest.

Skills and experience

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Friendly approach when conducting the tours
  • Knowledge of prospects in advance before supporting any event
  • Knowledge of departments before conducting the campus tours
  • Good IT skills including how to use Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Punctual

Whilst a training session will be provided every year you’re an ambassador will be provided, and you will receive a briefing before every alumni/donor interaction, we are also looking for the following skills:

Essential

  • Excellent verbal communication skills – ability to articulate thoughts clearly, with confidence, in both formal and informal settings to share your experience as a Scholar Ambassador effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to build rapport and connect with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Public speaking skills – confident and friendly approach, and the ability to present information, when giving campus tours
  • Interest in alumni and donor relations – passion for connecting with the university community
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment – flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities – many of our alumni and donor visits are often arranged with short to little notice, so you may be required to attend as a Scholar Ambassador with only a week or less to prepare.
  • A willingness to learn and develop new skills

 Preferred for specific responsibilities, but not essential:

  • Excellent written communication skills – if keen to become a content writer as part of your Scholar Ambassador role

Creative writing or storytelling abilities – talent for expressing ideas in a compelling and engaging manner

  • Experience with campus tours – familiarity with the campus and ability to guide visitors with confidence and efficiency. Training will be provided.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Basic understanding of social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Experience with video editing software (preferred but not essential): Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.
  • Photography skills (preferred but not essential): Ability to capture high-quality images.
