Role
The University of Edinburgh is currently offering a part-time opportunity for a student to join the Business Development Team in EDINA, as a Marketing and Communications Intern. EDINA is a world-class centre for digital expertise, specialising in developing and delivering digital products, including large-scale online services, mobile applications and digital tools for education. Within this role, you will support with the planning, development and implementation of social media content, and create multimedia content, to enhance the digital outreach of EDINA’s flagship geospatial products, Digimap and Digimap for Schools.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to gain valuable experience in Social Media marketing, digital content creation, and marketing performance analysis.

You can expect to start work on the week commencing on the 2nd December 2024, and work until mid-September 2025. The student can expect to work 7 hours per week in a hybrid working pattern split between working from home, and in Argyle House. There may be a possibility for full-time hours to be offered in the summer, dependent on the successful candidate’s level of study. The pay for this role is £13.94 per hour, plus £2.52 per hour holiday pay. Payment is one month in arrears, meaning your first payment date (should this position start when expected) will be 28th January 2025.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Collaborating with stakeholders to support the planning, development and implementation of Social Media content for Digimap and Digimap for Schools across different e-mail marketing and social media platforms (LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram);
  • Creating digital content, such as short videos or infographics, to highlight the Digimap services’ features, as well as promote events and training sessions;
  • Providing Social Media management support, through monitoring user-generated content, engaging with followers, reporting relevant feedback and identifying emerging trends;
  • Analysing the social media and e-mail marketing performance for the Digimap services, reporting the key data and suggesting improvements to be made, to increase engagement and improve campaign strategies.

Skills and experience

Essential criteria:

  • A current University of Edinburgh student (this post is designated for UoE student employment; therefore, you must be a matriculated student for the duration of your employment). You also must not hold the position of ‘Resident Assistant’;
  • Based in the UK for the duration of the work, able to work on campus when required (we cannot accommodate individuals working overseas due to tax and legal implications), and able to attend a Right to Work Check in person if needed;
  • Proven experience with social media management and digital multimedia content creation (social media, print), to promote brands, organisations or societies;
  • Demonstrable ability to use graphic design and video editing tools (e.g., Canva and the Adobe package);
  • Evidence of a good understanding of marketing concepts and communications strategies;
  • Proven ability to work independently and prioritise workloads, whilst maintaining a strong attention to detail.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Evidence of a good understanding of the education systems in the UK;
  • Proven interest in Educational Technology (EdTech) and/or Geography;
  • Demonstrable understanding of Web design, User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) research.
