Role
A local Independent School seeks enthusiastic Apprentice Chef passionate about transforming good, local food into something really special and learn the skills of the trade.
The successful candidate will have a passion for learning new skills, a commitment to maintaining high standards, and the ability to work effectively within a team. This position offers a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in a school catering environment.
Duties and responsibilities
Your duties will be:
- Ensure a high standard of food quality and presentation.
- Adhere to training requirements set by both the school and college, developing new skills across all kitchen departments.
- Gain experience across all areas of the school’s foundation units.
- Actively participate in the preparation and serving of meals for school functions and events.
- Understand and implement Nutritional Guidelines in Schools, contributing to the preparation of healthy meals.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen, ensuring compliance with Food Safety Legislation.
- Ensure HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) procedures are followed, adhering to school policies.
- Record food safety documents accurately and ensure compliance with food safety procedures.
- Participate in food production and service during school holiday periods.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team to support the overall kitchen and school environment.
Skills and experience
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.
- Basic key skills.
- Understanding of health and safety principles and safe working practices in a catering environment.
- Willingness to learn how to cook fresh produce to a high standard.
- Prepared to work in a catering environment that requires initiative and self-discipline.
- Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships with children and young people, while adhering to safeguarding policies.
- Understanding of Equality and Diversity requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and visitors.
- Clean and tidy appearance, with integrity, discretion, and a mature approach to the work environment.
- Good communicator, receptive to learning from other team members.
Desirable Criteria:
- Knowledge of Fire Safety Procedures.
- Understanding of Nutritional Guidelines in Schools.
- Competence with Microsoft applications.
- Interest in engaging with young people and different cultures.
- Resourceful and independent, with the ability to manage time efficiently.
