Description

Role
We are recruiting 2-3 research assistants to conduct a systematic review on lung cancer, which is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The positions are particularly suitable for postgraduate (master or PhD) students who have recently finished their studies, senior medical students, or junior doctors who want to gain more research experience of systematic reviews and risk prediction models for lung cancer. Training will be provided for this role. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • To support a research team in the acquisition, evaluation and /or interpretation of data and other specialised information.
  • To integrate into the research team to develop protocols and techniques as required for the project.
  • To carry out analyses, tests and critical evaluations using agreed techniques, novel approaches and/or models.
  • To prepare and undertake high-quality data analyses and tests using appropriate techniques and novel approaches.
  • To contribute to the development or choice of techniques, critiques, approaches, models and research methods.
  • To summarise findings, record, and disseminate where appropriate to members of the research group.
  • To contribute to research outputs such as co-authored journal articles/technical papers relating to the work.
  • To carry out literature searches within pre-specified parameters.

Skills and experience

  • Evidence of Honours degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Epidemiology, Medical Statistics, Health Sciences, Medicine, etc.) and/or relevant experience
  • A good understanding on the process of conducting systematic reviews or literature reviews
  • Familiarity with PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines
  • Knowledge of using systematic review management software (e.g., Covidence, Rayyan, EndNote, or RevMan)
  • Ability to summarize complex scientific literature clearly and concisely
  • Critical Appraisal Skills: able to assess the quality of studies, including understanding various types of biases
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, especially in tracking and managing references and study information
  • Good time management skills, able to work independently and meet deadlines in a research setting
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: good communication skills, able to work effectively within a research team to finish a project

Location
Flexible, remote-working, some face-to-face meetings may be needed at Main Campus.
