Role

We are seeking three enthusiastic interns for our 1UP Games Development programme at the University of Staffordshire. We have openings for a Games Artist, a Games Designer, and a Games Programmer. These roles are part of an 8-month project focused on completing several commercial games, developed during the 1UP summer placement. The aim is to create industry-ready titles that will be used at events like UCAS fairs to showcase the university's capabilities in game development.

We are looking to hire three current students. To be considered you must have a high quality online portfolio, and good attendance. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team to develop commercial game titles.
  • Dedicate 6 hours per week to refining and enhancing game designs, art assets, or programming, depending on your role.
  • Engage in regular team meetings to discuss project progress, overcome challenges, and brainstorm innovative game mechanics.
  • Work closely with mentors from the University of Staffordshire to polish games that will be used for student recruitment and other promotional activities.
  • Ensure that games are ready for commercial delivery by the end of the placement
 

Skills and experience

  • Games Artist: Experience with 3D game art creation, proficiency in relevant software.
  • Games Designer: Understanding of game mechanics, level design, and player experience, with experience in using game engines. Knowledge of Blueprint is essential. 
  • Games Programmer: Strong programming skills, preferably in C# and C++, and experience with game engines such as Unity or Unreal.
  • A passion for games development and a collaborative mindset are essential for all roles.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
