Role

Unitemps are recruiting for a Module Design Lead within the RIGE department. The role is to work from 30th October 2024 and will run until 21st February 2025 full-time at 35 hours per week . Payment is set at £22.66 + holiday pay per hour and the role will be HYBRID based.

It is anticipated that the postholder will start as soon as possible and work on a full-time basis, although there is flexibility for it to be a 3.5 or 4 days per week post for the right candidate. 

To build on UCL’s track-record of investing in seeking sustainable answers to the complex challenges of the modern world by developing an elective for-credit module under the ‘Grand Challenges’ banner. Its remit will be to equip students with the skills and tools to apply the Grand Challenges approach (interdisciplinary, collaborative, and challenge-led) to develop inclusive and sustainable solutions to real-world problems. The module will use online education provision combined with in-person opportunities to support mass participation. It will provide theory and practice opportunities, allowing students to make connections across different disciplines, and encourage more creative and applied thinking in a work-related learning context.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design a Grand Challenges elective module for undergraduate (level 5) students at UCL, to pilot in 2025/26.
  • Design intended learning outcomes, ensuring achievability and alignment with new UCL Pillars of Employability.
  • Design effective evaluation framework and delivery plan for the module pilot.
  • Design a scaled delivery model for the module, and a plan for enabling growth in participation, including identification of resource requirements and assessment/feedback delivery mechanisms.
  • Identify tools and platforms to be leveraged to ensure a high-quality and effective digital learning experience.
  • Identify staff at UCL who could contribute lectures and other subject-specific content.
  • Identify a framework and partners for industry/community consultancy projects.
  • Deliver a Module Proposal Form, in accordance with UCL’s Programme and Module Approval and Amendment Framework.
  • Seek and incorporate feedback from the Grand Challenges (ESE) Advisory Board, and relevant UCL stakeholders, including (but not limited to) Higher Education Development & Support Institute, Programme Development, ESD Steering Group, VPESE Student Partnership Committee, Grand Challenges Student Consultative Group, Senior Education Team, Work Related Learning, Sustainable UCL

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Experience in interdisciplinary undergraduate curriculum design.
  • An understanding of UCL’s programme and module credit framework and other relevant regulations as set out in the Academic Manual.
  • Experience in designing and/or delivering digital learning modules and/or programmes.
  • An understanding of digital pedagogy and how physical and virtual learning activities can be effectively blended together.
  • An understanding of Education for Sustainable Development and/or equivalent challenge-led frameworks.
  • Creative, innovative, ambitious, collaborative, and willing to take risks.
  • Ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders within academia, industry, and civil society.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • A PhD in relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in developing Work Related Learning partnerships.
  • Experience in leading undergraduate modules and/or programmes.
