Role
Responsible for the processing of all financial transactions and the accounting support to the Department Administrator through the preparation of management information, reconciliation and budgetary control

Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide advice to departmental staff regarding financial regulations. 
  • Prepare budgets for activities within the department. Provide support to budget holders in managing financial budgets by highlighting areas of overspend and advising on possible actions.  
  • Providing routine advice and assistance to staff about the University’s financial systems and procedures, acting as a local financial regulations champion.
  • To prepare and process departmental expenses, purchase invoices, STP and Unitemps payments, and departmental purchasing card payments. 
  • In consultation with colleagues in the Finance Office, advise on the creation cost centres, profit centres, and internal orders to meet the Department’s reporting needs. 
  • Maintain financial information and records, in line with University information security policies and Data Protection legislation. 
  • Primary contact for the ordering of stationery, IT supplies etc.
  • Assistance with the management of department facilities.

Skills and experience

Qualifications: 

  • Educated to A level, or with equivalent relevant academic or vocational qualifications or work experience

Previous Experience

  • Experience of using SAP
  • Experience in maintaining accurate financial accounts.
  • Experience in budgeting.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to use initiative, to work quickly and accurately under pressure, and to cope with competing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to use discretion and to recognise the need for confidentiality.
  • Excellent IT skills, including MS Office and web-content management software (preferably Sitebuilder)
