Role

The post is to undertake specific immigration compliance related duties and processes which will support the work of the HR Immigration team in ensuring that the University effectively meets its sponsor and employer duties in relation to right to work checks.  You will support the HR Immigration Adviser in completing tasks including compliance checks to ensure that all UKVI record keeping and reporting duties are undertaken correctly and kept up to date in accordance with Home Office guidance. The role will also assist with improving web pages and user guides as part of continual process improvement.   

Whilst the post is full-time, we will consider a variety of work options including hybrid working and part-time work.

Duties and responsibilities

Working under the direction of the HR Immigration Adviser, you will undertake the following duties:

  • Audit right to work checks undertaken checking the correct processes have been followed and complete records have been kept, to ensure compliance with both Home Office legislative and University procedural requirements.  
  • Report on findings. Escalate issues identified to the HR Immigration Adviser.
  • Assist with audits of sponsorship records, ensuring all documentation is maintained and up-to-date.
  • Work with others using tact, discretion and sensitivity to resolve queries and obtain any required information in relation to right to work and sponsorship documentation. You will be expected to communicate with members of staff at all levels, department contacts, managers and others in HR.
  • Obtain and utilise system reporting in order to undertake compliance checking activity.
  • Handle and manage sensitive information observing confidentiality and in accordance with Data Protection requirements.
  • Assist the HR Immigration Adviser to create, maintain and update content for processes, user guides and the immigration sections of the HR website and intranet as part of continual process improvement.
  • Assist the HR Immigration Adviser in developing training materials for right to work checks and sponsor obligations. 

Skills and experience

  1. Good general education to at least A level Standard or equivalent.
  2. Understanding and experience of the Home Office requirements for conducting right to work checks.
  3. Meticulous attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  4. Able to analyse and summarise information to report findings of compliance checks.
  5. Experience of using MS Office tools; Excel, PowerPoint and Word to report and present findings. 
  6. Work with a high level of independence and initiative in planning and prioritising own work.
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage professionally and sensitively with staff at all levels.
  8. Understanding and experience of handling sensitive and confidential information and the consequences of failing to do so.
  9. Excellent administration skills to assist with updating process documentation.  
  10. Ideally, knowledge of the Skilled Worker visa route and understanding of the regulations and requirements in relation to sponsorship.
  11. Ideally, experience of creating engaging training content and materials, users guides and/or web pages.

Location
Hybrid. Mainly WFH with approx 1 day per week on campus. Request can be discussed.
