Role
We are looking for new Leicester Student Ambassadors and recruitment is now open.
This role is ideal for anyone who loves the University of Leicester, is passionate about their course and the University.
Working with the Future Students Office, Leicester Ambassadors work closely with University staff at all levels assisting on events like Open Days, Offer Holder Days and School visits both on campus , in schools and virtually. Ambassadors also have the opportunity to work with pupils at Primary and Secondary Schools both on and off campus.
Events take place throughout the academic year and there are ongoing opportunities to take part in events during the Easter and summer vacation periods. Events delivered by the team include open and offer holder days, university experience days, primary school visits, taster courses, masterclasses, goal setting workshops and other special projects.
This is a casual position and as such you will have no set working hours. You will however need to commit to working on at least 2 events per term including at least one Open Day to remain an active Ambassador. Work opportunities are offered to our pool of ambassadors through a weekly work bulletin email and the team try to ensure that all ambassadors have an opportunity to engage in a variety of work during the year.
Training is provided, together with ongoing development support. Members of staff from the Future Students Office will support your work at events. Working as an Ambassador will provide you with plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and will provide you with evidence of transferable skills for your CV.
This role is paid at the National Living Wage, which is currently £12.21 per hour, with £1.47 holiday pay per hour.
Duties and responsibilities
- Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors to the University
- Assisting University members of staff in the running of events including Open Days, Offer Holder days and University Experience Days, this includes setting up and clearing away after the events
- Taking students/visitors on campus and accommodation tours
- Talking to students/visitors about your experiences of the University of Leicester, its facilities and your course
- Engaging with students at outreach events, facilitating workshops and ensuring all students are getting involved with the activities
- Supporting the Student Recruitment and Outreach teams, in raising aspirations. Acting as a role model and encouraging Students to aim higher, helping them to overcome their perceived barriers to Higher Education

Education qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Currently studying an Undergraduate course at the University of Leicester * (not in final year of study)
- Good Knowledge of the University’s campus, courses and facilities
Desirable
- Experience in a customer facing role
- Experience of working with young people

- Excellent Customer service skills (experience of and an understanding of what excellent customer service is)*
- Excellent Communications skills (both verbal and written) -
- The ability to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds*
