Role

We are currently looking for a VAT Consultant to join our clients growing VAT advisory team. As a business they pride themselves on their client relationships and therefore candidates will also need the ability to build good rapport with clients and understand some of the time constraints that could affect making new commercial contracts and thus be able to make a quick response to queries that arise.

As the law and HMRC tactics evolve, they evolve too and therefore successful candidates will also need a willingness to keep learning, work with a team and take on tasks that are not necessarily within the realm of past experience.

Duties and responsibilities
As VAT Consultant, you will carve a key position within this growing team and you will work closely with Directors/Partners delivering wide ranging VAT solutions to the firms client base, providing commercial advice on complex VAT issues to OMBs through to large groups, corporate and AIM listed companies. 

Candidates need to have a working and experienced knowledge of UK VAT legislation and accompanying guidance, with particular knowledge of its application in the construction industry and the health services industry. 

In addition, candidates will need the ability to review business records to advise on VAT compliance and highlight any areas of weakness.  An aptitude to quickly understand how a client’s business operates and to tailor advice to the specific business needs. 

. Alongside delivering a quality service to clients you will manage and support a wider team and work with directors on the further growth and development of the firms VAT service lines, carving a key influential role within this growing firm with a clear progression path on offer.

Skills and experience

Experience in advising clients in VAT matters

· Excellent communication skills

· Ability to understand and dissect legislation and case law

· Ability to understand the law from a commercial perspective

· Ability to explain the law to clients in their language

· Ability to manage own caseload, work independently but also in a team

· Desire to gain knowledge and be involved in training others

· Desire to travel for work and not just be office/ home based

· Track record of drafting, amending and reviewing contractual documents

Preferred Skills

· Experience representing clients with HMRC enquiries

· Experience of the appeal/ tax tribunal procedure

· Experience representing clients in the tax tribunals

· Being able to discern between supplies of staff and supplies of services

· An advisory background with experience of:

· the Nursing Agencies Concession

· partial exemption

· the NHS process of VAT recovery

· construction services

· due diligence for labour supply chains
