This prestigious company are looking for a dynamic and creative individual to join their team as a Creative Studio Host at their award-winning tourist destination. They are the home of Stoke-on-Trent’s most prestigious ceramics brand,, in Barlaston (5 minutes from Trentham).  

Reporting to the Creative Studio Manager, you will be responsible for delivering an exciting programme of Ceramic/Craft workshops and activities, ensuring that our guests have extraordinary and memorable experiences in our Creative Studios.

Please note that this role involves interaction with visitors to include children, young people and vulnerable adults, therefore successful applicants will be asked to complete a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Application. Public transport can be difficult to the site, especially on a Sunday, having your own vehicle would be advantageous. 

Flexible working hours are available from 21 hours per week over 3 days from 7, with frequent weekend working. Working hours are generally 09:30 to 17:00, there is also an option to work 14 hours per week over 2 days from 7. There is also potential for over time flexibility during peak school holidays. 

Duties and responsibilities

Customer Service:

  • Deliver enjoyable and memorable creative experiences by engaging guests and encouraging their participation in available activities.
  • Provide clear explanations of workshop sessions, demonstrate skills, and guide guests through relevant processes.
  • Respond to guest queries in a timely and professional manner, offering accurate information about the facilities.
  • Support the Sales & Marketing team in accommodating tour operators, coach and domestic groups, and education visits as needed.

Creativity and Development:

  • Contribute to the development of a high-quality program of craft and ceramic-based workshops and experiences.
  • Establish community links and build connections with artists to develop projects and workshops.
  • Attend networking events, talks, and workshops relevant to the creative sector.
  • Participate in training on ceramic processes for professional development.

Operational:

  • Maintain high ceramic studio standards and prepare the studio for daily operations.
  • Assist the Studio Manager in stock and supplies administration to ensure smooth studio processes.
  • Record, track, and process guest work within studio deadlines.
  • Process transactions within the Creative Studios and oversee the day-to-day operation of the  booking system for Studio bookings.
  • Support the Creative Studio Team Lead with back-of-house processes.
  • Attend trade shows, exhibitions, and events as required.
  • Follow all applicable Health & Safety procedures.

Skills and experience

  • Have an artistic and creative flair, ideally with experience of using clay
  • Focus on excellent guest service and confidence to interact with all guests
  • Be approachable and friendly with a ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Be able to communicate effectively and work well in a team
  • Possess excellent time management and organisation skills
