If you want to work for a global lifestyle company and a gold-award winning tourist destination that serves luxury, this could be the job for you.This prestigious company are looking for a Creative Studio Team Lead to work within their award-winning tourist destination. They are the home of Stoke-on-Trent’s most prestigious ceramics brand, based in Barlaston (5 minutes from Trentham).  

Reporting to the Creative Studio Manager, this role will be responsible for delivering ceramic-based workshops whilst supporting with the technical aspects of ceramic making. The role requires the alignment to the organisational values of firing creativity, serving luxury, uniting art and industry.

This position is for 12 months, the working hours are 28 hours per week, 4 days from 7, with frequent weekend working. Daily hours of work are generally 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Please note that this role involves interaction with visitors to include children, young people and vulnerable adults, therefore successful applicants will be asked to complete a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Application

Public transport can be difficult to the site, especially on a Sunday, having your own vehicle would be advantageous. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Delivering workshops of a high standard, ensuring that the Creative Studio Hosts are briefed regarding expectations
  • Responding to customer enquiries professionally and in a timely manner
  • Organising and maintaining good ceramic studio standards in accordance with COSHH and Health & Safety requirements and risk assessments.
  • Reclaiming clay, making casting slips and raw material testing
  • Mixing & applying glaze, ensuring correct storage & labelling
  • Fostering teamwork within the Creative Studio by setting a positive example, assigning studio tasks, and providing guidance during studio host training.
  • Overseeing the timely production and workflow of Creative Studio pottery, including glazing and kiln firing
  • Ensuring the quality control of ceramic products throughout production

Skills and experience

  • Have an artistic and creative flair, ideally with experience of using clay
  • Focus on excellent guest service and confidence to interact with all guests
  • Be approachable and friendly with a ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Be able to communicate effectively and work well in a team
  • Possess excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Relevant ceramic experience and knowledge of using kilns is desirable
  • Public transport can be difficult to the site, especially on a Sunday, having your own vehicle would be advantageous.
