Description

Role
***This role is open to PGRs from all subject areas within APSS ONLY***

Funded via Research England’s ‘Enhancing Research Culture’ initiative, the Disabled Researchers Network project is a two-year programme which explores how to build a positive research culture for disabled researchers at LJMU and beyond. The project aims to empower disabled and neurodivergent researchers, foster community and solidarity, and challenge the barriers that can prevent disabled researchers from thriving in higher education.

Duties and responsibilities
As a research assistant on this project, you will:

•Conduct a scoping review on the barriers experienced by disabled and neurodivergent researchers in higher education, with a specific focus on access to events (e.g. conferences, graduation ceremonies, meetings, research seminars).
• Produce a report for the project team highlighting key sources on this topic and their aims and scope.
• Create a one-page guide for LJMU staff on best practice when planning and organising events, and an associated infographic.

 You will gain:
• An understanding of accessibility issues, and the specific barriers disabled and neurodivergent people may encounter in higher education.
 • An understanding of how to make events more accessible and inclusive, which will be applicable in a wide range of contexts. • Skills in synthesising research findings.
• Skills in communicating research findings to different audiences in an accessible way.
• Skills and evidence of working on a research-directed project.

Skills and experience
This role is open to PGRs from all subject areas within APSS with an interest in disability and a commitment to access and inclusion. Previous experience of scoping reviews is not essential as training will be provided.
