Unitemps are acting as an Employment Business, supplying temporary workers, in relation to this vacancy.

Summers Abroad specialises in organising residential English language courses in the UK for young people aged 10-17. Our students usually stay for a period of two or three weeks and benefit from English language tuition in the mornings and a full social, cultural and sports activity programme in the afternoons and evenings. Our aim is to offer students the opportunity to enjoy using English to communicate in a relaxed, stimulating and caring environment. We are looking to recruit Activity Leaders – come and join us and have a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Duties and responsibilities

The Activity Leader is responsible for the smooth and successful delivery of the activities programme coordinated by the Activities Manager. The role of the Activity Leader is pivotal to the promotion and delivery of the activity programme, ensuring students are well motivated and all activities are run to a high standard. Attendance of Induction Days is essential.

Activity Leaders work up to a maximum of 48 hours a week over a six-day week, and all full-time staff receive one full day off per week. Residential positions will include all meals and accommodation.

Among the duties are the following:Meet groups at airport and accompany them to the waiting coaches. Return to the college with group. Accompany groups on excursions and on departure to airport. On arrival help groups settle into accommodation/help with luggage if necessary. Supervise students at mealtimes. Distribute packed lunches on excursions. Accompany group on excursions. Prepare posters to inform students of practical information – mealtimes / daily programme/ sports competitions/excursions/team lists etc.

The sports activities/competitions will be prepared / supervised by the activities staff. You will be required to attend an induction seminar before commencing your duties. Time off will depend on the needs of the programme and will be agreed with the Course Director. This is a wonderful opportunity to work in a very stimulating and enjoyable environment.

Skills and experience

  • Leaving Certificate
  • Ability to Motivate and enjoy working with large groups of children/teenagers
  • Excellent communication skills and excellent level of fluency in English Enthusiasm and team player
  • 18 years of age and over
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment
  • Previous experience working with children/teenagers
  • Competent sports person with excellent knowledge of rules and organisation of sports/games
  • Occupational First Aid Qualification
  • Previous summer school experience
  • Experience and interest in related subjects e.g. sports drama, arts and crafts etc.
  • Lifeguard/Coaching Qualification

Skills

A people person, adaptable, used to working/being with teenagers, a good organiser.
