THE ROLE

On behalf of our Leicester Client we are looking to recruit a Sessional Interpreter - Latvian on a ad-hoc basis

We are looking for a candidate who can work freelance and flexibly, has good ability to communicate effectively in both English and Latvian.

Working as part of the NHS, you will be required to facilitate communication between caseworker and service user by providing interpretation and translation services. It will be necessary for you to be fluent in Latvian and English.

  • Expected start date: ASAP
  • Expected end date: ongoing
  • Rate of pay: £12.00
  • Holiday Pay: £1.45

This role is an essential communication link between the service users and staff who provide the service.

Please note that hours will be available when requests come through. 

The bookings normally happen between 08.30am and 17:00pm Monday to Friday but on the odd occasion, there may be a request for an earlier start or a later finish. Each appointment will be approx. 1.5 hour in duration, and will be within the Leicestershire area. You will be required to travel from home to the appointment, so it is important you are able to access transport in and around the Leicestershire area.

**Candidate must be flexible and able to travel to venues and please note that this role is not at the university**

Duties and responsibilities

To act as an interpreter between non-English speaking clients and Health Professionals in face-to-face situations, or on the telephone.

To provide an interpreting service to other agencies at the request of the Project Manager. 

To ensure completion and return of forms and other relevant documentation for each interpreting session to allow monitoring and evaluation of the Interpreting Service.

To inform the Manager of any difficulties experienced in the interpreting sessions.

To attend Resource Centre to provide all interpreting service for the centres clinics if required.

To adhere to the Trust policies and procedures.

Skills and experience

Previous experience is an advantage.

Good communication is essential - to speak/understand both English and Latvian fully.

Reliability and professionalism are key to this role.

To hold a DBS certificate (Disclosure Barring Service Check) would be advantageous.

It will be necessary for you to travel to various locations within Leicester & Leicestershire. 

You will need to be able to get to each appointment from your home address, so would be advantageous for candidates to have a driving licence.
