Role

ICUR 2024 AV Student Technician

The International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR) is an annual, two-day academic conference that showcases the best in undergraduate research from around the world. It provides undergraduate researchers with a unique opportunity to present their research in real-time, video-linked sessions from their home campus. ICUR is student-centred and student-led, and we are currently looking to recruit undergraduate students at the University of Warwick to work as AV Student Technicians, providing crucial audio-visual technical support at ICUR 2024.

ICUR 2024 will take place between 26th and 27th June 2024 as a hybrid event, connecting students on the Warwick campus with students from universities and campuses across the

world, through the use of the latest video conferencing technology. Sessions will be hosted in the Oculus building on the Warwick campus, while also being accessible remotely via our App.

Last year, over 500 students presented their research to a global audience.

The role is due to start in June 2024 and runs until the end of that month.

For this role, we are looking for students who are tech-savvy, quick learners and who are passionate about enhancing the student experience.

Duties and responsibilities

Duties for these roles are varied and can, to some extent, be developed to suit the skills and

expertise of successful candidates. Duties anticipated include but are not limited to the following:

· Work as part of an international team of staff and students, providing on-the-ground support for scheduled ICUR sessions

· Communicate with ICUR Coordinators and Session Chairs to ascertain specific support requirements throughout event.

· Assist session presenters with their individual audio/visual requirements before and during sessions.

· Act as the main room steward, ensuring the room is properly set up and all equipment is available and working.

· Dial into the correct video conference meeting, establish two-way communication between each location involved, and load presentation materials before each session begins.

· Manage microphones and cameras during presentations and the Q&A sessions, as well managing the Zoom chat in preparation for the Q&A sessions.

· Be available to diagnose and address any problems and issues that may occur from an audio/visual standpoint during sessions.

· Attend training sessions which will help develop important technical skills in preparation for the AV Student Technician role at ICUR.

All work for this role, including training, will be remunerated.

Applicants must be available for the following dates:

· Week beginning 10th June – virtual induction session

· Week beginning 17th June – in person induction session

· 24th – 25th June 2024 – conference set-up, orientation, and preparation (on campus)

· 26th – 27th June 2024 – the conference (on campus)

Applicants should be available to come onto campus to the Oculus Building for the days of the conference (between 26th-29th June 2024). This will be a busy role with early starts.

Skills and experience

· Interest in the provision of audio visual services within a complex service environment;

· Interest and/or experience working at student conferences and/or events;

· Experience with audio visual equipment and experience with video/data projection equipment;

· Sound IT knowledge including Microsoft Office applications, such as PowerPoint;

· Relevant IT experience, including the use of PCs within a networked environment;

· Experience of digital camera technology and video conferencing;

· Familiarity with Zoom and other video conferencing platforms;

· A customer focused approach to service delivery, with the ability to create welcoming environments for students and other guests;

· Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with staff and external visitors at all levels;

· The ability to work to work effectively in high pressure situations and to work to tight deadlines;

· Flexibility and initiative;

· Proactive and eager to learn;

· Be enrolled as a current student at the University of Warwick during the length of the appointment (until 30th June 2024)
