THE ROLE

On behalf of our Leicester Client, we are seeking to recruit Physics Technician. 

We are looking for a candidate who is able to provide a range of services to Physic's staff and students with particular reference to the preparation of equipment and resources.

Expected end date: 10th May 2024 

Rate of pay: £11.57

Holiday Pay: £1.40

This role is a Office based role working 12 hours per week during the term time. 

Duties and responsibilities

Practical Class Activities

Under the supervision of the Senior Laboratory Technician, to be responsible to for the provision and clearing away of equipment and chemicals required for class practicals, demonstrations, investigations, including practical assessments, external practical examinations, as requested by teaching staff

To assist in maintaining a catalogue of all practicals.  

To help with the supervision of students doing practical investigations or class practicals where appropriate.

Design and Construction of Equipment and Resources

To assist, in conjunction with the Senior Laboratory Technician and teaching staff, with the design of practicals and construction of equipment.  

To help in the production of teaching resources particularly associated with practical work.

Maintenance

To participate in maintaining equipment, materials and laboratories/facilities in a clean, working and safe condition and reporting any faults to the Senior Laboratory Technician.  

Organisation and Storage

To participate in the organisation and safe storage of equipment and materials.

Health & Safety

To participate in routine safety checks on apparatus and materials as required by Health and Safety regulations and for the routine maintenance of safety equipment and instruction of others on routine safety checks.

Administration

Participate in monitoring stock of consumable and non-consumable materials, equipment and resources and in conjunction with the Senior Laboratory Technician checking deliveries.

Promotion of the Subject

Assist with the production of displays and at enrolment, open days and other events organised by the curriculum area

General Responsibilities:

Skills and experience

Education & Qualifications     

A good standard of general education including English or Maths at GCSE grade C or above    Essential

A Levels or equivalent     Desirable

IT qualifications e.g., RSA Stage II Word Processing/ECDL/CLAIT or equivalent    Desirable

Experience, Knowledge & Abilities    

Experience of health and safety regulations and procedures regarding labs - essential 

Experience of dealing with customers and/or clients, by phone and in person    Essential

Experience of working in college or school context    Desirable

Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail     Essential

Confident and competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel    Essential

Ability to respond and communicate with others showing sensitivity, clarity and focus     Essential 

Ability to plan and prioritise work effectively and meet deadlines    Essential
