This is an exciting opportunity to join the Staffordshire University ResLife team as a Residential Services Assistant. They are looking for individuals passionate about creating the best University experience for residents.
 

The role will support the day-to-day operations of the Residential Services department. The role will assist the department in delivering a high-quality service to the community of students living in university managed accommodation.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Meet and greet residents on arrival to university accommodation, e.g. during Moving in Weekend and Welcome Week.
  • Keeping up to date with ongoing trends in student accommodation and Residence Life, for providing insight into ‘what students want and need’ in accommodation.
  • Suggesting and contributing to changes and improvements to systems and processes within Residence Life.
  • Assisting the team of Residence Life Assistants, providing logistical support and ad hoc guidance
  • Respond to routine enquiries regarding the services and facilities available within the residences and in the University, always acting in a professional and courteous manner while representing the University.
  • Supporting the preparation of routine reports, letters, emails, and other communication for internal and external audiences.
  • To be involved in updating and monitoring social media.
  • Liaise with key staff, organisations, and agencies.
  • Record contact with residents and take notes of actions taken, ensuring compliance.
  • Provide regular reports about any accommodation matters to the Residential Services Coordinator and Accommodation Officer.
  • Plan and communicate information on welfare, safety, and educational campaigns via communication with residents and by displaying information on notice boards and ensure notice boards are kept up to date and that they display only appropriate information.
  • At all times act with consideration to confidentiality, equality, diversity, and protection of data.
  • Be a role model to other students while working in university accommodation.
  • Preparing the accommodation blocks and welcome packs for new residents' arrival
  • Report as appropriate any welfare, health, safety, security, or maintenance concerns
  • Support residents’ in the case of evacuation for fire alarm activation and any health and safety procedures.
  • Attend regular team meetings.
  • Any other duties, commensurate with the role.

Skills and experience

  • Understanding and experience of university accommodation environment
  • Experience and knowledge gained working to provide student support for a university accommodation provider
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of using an Accommodation Management package (e.g. Room Service)
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Ability to work as a team or independently
  • Ability to use social media
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Genuine enthusiasm and a commitment to providing good customer service 
  • Ability to plan, organise and use initiative
  • Pro active in engaging with students
  • Commitment to inclusive community building, including the ability to support with student concerns
