Description

Role

  • The research assistant will collect literature review and carry out statistical analysis to inform the design of an intervention that aims to tackle toxic masculinity in London-based schools. The research assistant will be part of a multidisciplinary team compounded by researchers from the MDX Accounting, Finance and Economics Department, the MDX School of Film and the MDX Student & Legal Affairs Department.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Identify literature review in Sociology, Economics and Psychology on the definition of toxic masculinity and the behaviours that it might manifest.
  • Identify interventions aiming to tackle toxic masculinity (considering various destructive aspects such as misogyny and gender-based violence).
  • Find UK data and reports to contextualise the magnitude of these social problems in the United Kingdom.
  • Elaborate statistical analysis using public data collected/stored by the UK Data Archive and the Office for National Statistics.
  • Write a short report on the main findings derived from the statistical analysis.
  • Provide support to the research team on the preparation of manuals to help the implementation of the intervention designed by the research team.   

Skills and experience

  • Essentials
    • Background in Economics or Psychology or related disciplines. 
    • Intermediate knowledge in the use of statistical software such as Stata, Python or R.
    • Knowldege on intermediate econometrics including regression analysis, logit, probits and panel data methods.
    • Excellent writing skills.
  • Desirable
    • Knowledge on research related to gender-biased social norms, gender violence and related topics.
    • Knowledge on psychological theories explaining toxic masculinity and related topics.
